Emma, a local Valley Center Girl Scout, just completed an Energy and Water Conservation Project and wants other kids to know that they can help conserve our precious water and energy resources. She sent us an article by Andrea Davis, appearing on the “ImproveNet” web-site which had some good ideas about how “Kids Kan Konserve” Water;
Brushing Your Teeth: Think about brushing your teeth in the morning. You may leave the water running to rinse your tooth brush. By turning the water off while you brush, and only turning it back on when you are going to use it, you will help conserve water!
Taking Shorter Showers: Another way to conserve is by taking notice of how long your showers are. By shortening your showers by one or two minutes each day, you can save hundreds of gallons per year.
Reuse Your Glass: Instead of getting a new glass every time you get a drink, use the same glass throughout the day.
Wash Full Loads: When the dishwasher and washing machine are used, make sure they are washing full loads of dishes and clothes.
Let Your Parents Know: If you see a leak or another waste of water, let your parents know so that they can fix the leak or correct the water waste and save water.
Water Is Limited and Precious: “Fresh, drinkable water is a limited resource that is necessary for our survival,” the article says, and less than 3% of the water on earth is drinkable. This is why it is important for Kids to do their part in conserving water at home by following these simple tips.
